Bebington

Above the door of Christ Church in Higher Bebington, where you might expect to see a figure of a saint, there’s what the locals call the Devil’s footprints. In fact, they are fossil prints dating back around 250 million years. The stone was quarried at nearby Storeton, which in its day produced more such footprints than anywhere else on earth.

The Oval offers the most extensive range of sporting activities of any single facility on Wirral. The sports centre includes two swimming pools, a multi-activity sports hall, squash courts aprogressive fitness suite. The complex also contains outdoor facilities such as the athletics stadium, an artificial grass pitch, grass pitches, porous play areas, an artificial ski slope and tennis courts.

The centre plays host to many of Wirral and Merseyside's major sporting events and was used in the film ‘Chariots of Fire’ to act as the location for the Olympic Games. The Woodside Ferry Terminal also featured in the film as the channel port.

Close to Bebington is the Lady Lever Art Gallery and the Port Sunlight Museum and Garden Village.
