Northwich town centre is distinctive with its black and white timber framed buildings but its real asset is its free parking and extensive number of independent shops and cafes.

Close to the town is Northwich Woodlands renown for its wildlife and vibrant parkland.

Many visitors park up in the town, take a stroll around the woodlands and then return for some retail therapy and lunch.

The town sits on the River Weaver - which runs 20 miles between Winsford and Runcorn - where it joins the Manchester Ship Canal.  The river was a busy commercial waterway, with a long history of carrying salt and chemicals.

The Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse is the home to Britain's only Salt Museum. At the Museum, you can also discover the fasinating history of west Cheshire as well as exploring the workhouse history of the imposing Victorian building.  The museum also has it own mini cinema, the Regalette, providing introductory films and special screenings.

Close by is the Anderton Boat Lift, known as the Cathedral of the Canals.  Here you can take boat trip down lift, visit the Exhibition Hall and see the recently opened Mural depicting the Engineers who designed and built the lift.

The imposing mural was created by Cheshire artist Diana Bernice Tackley and is now mounted on one of the lift’s original retaining walls.
