Handforth Railway Station
Handforth Railway Station is a Cheshire Best Kept Station.
In 2011, Handforth won the Big Society Award and in 2010 the Tidiest Station Award in the Cheshire Best Kept Station Competition.
Handforth Railway Station was Cheshire's Best Kept Station 2009.
The station is tended by the Friends of Handforth Station under the Chairmanship of Mike Bishop.
On 4th February 2010 Prince Charles paid a whistlestop visit to Handforth Station aboard the newly built LNER 60163 Tornado which was hauling the Royal Train.
Prince Charles had an opportunity to meet Mike Bishop, complement the work done at the station and congratulate the Friends Group on being Cheshire's Best Kept Station 2010.
Handforth Railway Station has now won eiight awards in the Cheshire Best Kept Station Competition. When the Competition was launched in 2003, it received a Commendation. Other awards include being named Cheshire's Best Kept Station in 2005 and the ACoRP Award in 2007.
The Friends Group was established in 1996, when the station was a shadow of its former self.
It has received sponsorship from the Local Community Rail Partnership, Northern Rail, Cheshire East Council, Giffords, Rotary, Manchester Airport and other local businesses and organisations.
