The Friends of Handforth Station are still working hard to keep the station friendly and attractive ….

While strictly following government and rail industry guidelines, they have been able to do some gardening/landscaping maintenance, and have recently hung some hanging baskets created by one of the FoHS volunteers.

FoHS were also delighted when Handforth Parish Council chose the station as a prime site for their contribution to the Greener Handforth Project.

HPC have planted fruit and vegetables in four large planters (between the road and the station ticket office) and will be tending them regularly.

Local residents are encouraged to support this and to help themselves to the produce when it ripens.

Ashley Comiskey-Dawson, Clerk for HPC, said:
“The Greener Handforth Project aims at keeping Handforth an attractive place to live in. Particularly in these difficult times, we want to remind people of the benefits of appreciating the natural world around us. The Parish Council is pleased to contribute towards this, and we were glad to help Wilmslow Garden Centre and the local business Shentons by buying plants from them.”

Hugh Everett of FoHS added:
“As well as our famous artworks, we are continually maintaining our planting scheme at the station. Our regular donor of hanging baskets (Oak Nurseries on Lees Lane) has only recently re-opened for business, so we are starting by displaying our own home-made hanging-baskets. We hope these, and the Parish Council’s planters, contribute towards the well-being of the local community as they travel past and through the station.”
